It's Friday afternoon, April 9, 1993, and the long awaited moment is finally here: the first pitch of the first home game of the expansion Colorado Rockies! An opening day record crowd of 80,227 is on hand at Mile High Stadium in Denver to witness Bryn Smith's pitch to Montreal Expos leadoff hitter Mike Lansing. The pitch is a ball, but thats about the only bad news this day as the Rockies go on to beat the Expos 11-4. A great moment in sports.
